Local Search Marketing

Is your website located where they are looking?

Local Search – a new dawn

Once upon a time, many years ago, a customer looking for a pest control company or a landscaper or a home remodeler or a carpet cleaner or a doctor or a great golf course, etc., would go to the yellow pages, look up their category and call the establishment.

Things have changed. In today’s “wired” world, potential customers are far more likely to sit down at the always on computer, go to Google or Yahoo and type in a local search term like “doctor in Fairfax va” or “pest control company va” Most look at the top 5 results, also known as the “golden triangle,” and click the listing of their choice to access the website. If the website is properly designed, they will call or fill in the request for info form. It is a hot local lead.

Current data show that over 80% of consumers are searching for products and services using the web.

Local Search – are you on board?

The horse and buggy industry was once a thriving business. Every family had one. The industries that supported it were also thriving, for many different parts wore out all the time. When Ford came along and cast the dream that he would make car ownership affordable for all – the horse and buggy industry scoffed at it. Saying that everyone will always prefer the horse and buggy to a slow moving clucky car, they dug in and refused to change with the times. Instead of seeing where things were going, they decided to dig in and stay where they were. As history documents, the car industry thrived and all the horse and buggy companies went out of business. Instead of retooling the shops to manufacture car parts and support the growing car industry, they chose to stay with what they knew and they went broke.

Don’t let the same thing happen to your company – it is crazy how many businesses are not getting on board with the new ways of marketing online. The day will come shortly when print yellow pages will not exist as you know them today. Is it your main source of leads? What will happen when print yellow pages no longer exists?

Local search is the new yellow pages.

Get on board now. It is only going to get harder and harder to rank in Google – now is the time to claim your ground – it is easier to defend your rank than to knock someone off. Don’t go the way of the buggy companies.
