Would Google be so bold as to do this? Currently, I don't think so, but it certainly does make you think, doesn't it? At any rate, the phrase "over-optimization" certainly seems to imply a certain Orwellian nature to the way Google is attempting to manage business behavior in search. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

It will be interesting if Google decides that the only "good" links are the ones that are links from Google products themselves. I'm not an expert, but this feels like an anti-trust violation of some kind. I wonder if doing this will result in people turning to different search engines to get independent results not based on how much money Google is making for the referral.

Unfortunately politics brings out the worst in people. Having only recently moved into the area, I am still in the process of establishing friendships and sometimes it is quite a surprise when opinions are expressed with a liberal sprinkling of cursing. Thanks for championing the cause of civility in this uncivil world!

Thanks, Luke. Yes, getting to the core of the issue often requires allowing the customer to vent, as you may not be getting the full story in the first negative response.

Great tips for handling negative feedback. simplifying it down into these three simple types is a good method for responding to what can sometimes be an unnerving experience which requires you to think fast and respond. Whatever type of feedback it is, diffuse diffuse diffuse and let the customer vent before isolating that issue and getting something done with it. Thanks for sharing.

I think you've made an excellent point (one that I didn't get to elaborate on.) Every facet of the expansion - also known as growth - process needs to be reviewed, including the "after success" part. Scot has mentioned to me before that businesses reach these points of flatline, and there has to be a conscious effort to get over these points, as well as a series of changes to help the business reach the next level. Thanks for expounding on my post!

White hat is the way to go! There are so many seo techniques that don't involve "tricking" the search engines to like your site. I appreciate your point of view.
